A column after my own heart--I love you more than ever! My dad was a graphic designer, so I grew up with this stuff (and those great magazines). My first job was as a production assistant at a (pre-phototypsetting) book publisher. I eventually became a copy-editor. and then went into marketing and branding queendom.
Miriam Tillman, I was a copy editor too! For Waverly Press and its successors. Fonts and typefaces were as important as grammar and style in my job. One of my cousins was a graphic artist (University of Maryland grad) who worked for several companies before her retirement.
Small world (more like small town)! I knew of Waverly Press, though I never worked there--I was at Johns Hopkins Univ. Press, then at Baltimore Magazine.

And I LOVE the SNL skits!
Excellent article!
I am supposed to be getting up and dressed--but here I am--unable to stop reading. Beautiful!
My neighbors and friends, Bill and Honey Passano, owned Waverly Press. How did I not remember about this connection?
