In the 1960s the NRA was a responsible organization. They promoted gun safety and education. In the late 1970s my father resigned his lifetime membership. He told me they had lost their minds.

I have always enjoyed it as a hobby. I have never viewed it as self defense. But it’s a useful skill.

I don't think we've ever had to think of it that way in this country. It's new.

I love you.

I have thought about arming up, but I don’t think I’m coordinated enough to handle a firearm, nor stable enough to not cause myself harm.

I'm uncoordinated, and I don't know if I have it in me to practice. But I wouldn't shoot myself. Way too violent and messy.

a bit ago, I spent some time clearing my history. did I, or did I not still have a warrant out for my arrest in California (drinking in public, a minor offense, but there would have been a trial, had I not jumped bail. jumping bail is a federal offense). things like that, that might interfere with me getting a gun license. turns out, I'm all clear, but I had a gun once, when I was drinking, and damn near blew my head off due to the fact I slept with it under my pillow, with my hand on the trigger. but those were the drinking days and the truth is, as a woman, as an older woman and as a Jew, I want a gun for self defense, which means I also want a carry permit, which I'll never get in NYC. BUT, thing is, if I had a gun in my purse, I'd be tempted to use way too many times and I'm sober, but I'm not all together in the temper department...so for now, I'll have to settle for just threatening to rip their throat bones out and play them like a flute, which sounds scary until you realize it's coming from a 67-year-old woman who has already shrunken almost two inches, who hasn't been able to squat in decades because...knees, hello?, and because anatomy just doesn't work like that.

But, I applaud your idea. A family that shoots together, has a better chance of hitting something.

Closing my left eye moves it to the left, and closing my right eye moves it to the right. Guess I’m ambi eyed.

You can't...read it? Like it? Agree with it? Laugh at the irony? That's OK. I still like you.

No - not that, none of the above. This piece is great. I have some history with the topic. I think that I published a piece about it long before you were a subscriber.
